Saints Top DC Baseball in Non-Conference Action

DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance took a quick break from Heartland Conference action to host Thomas More on Tuesday and suffered an 11-2 defeat to the Saints. The Jackets got on the board with a run in the first, but Thomas More controlled the action from then on.
LeTroy Harris got things started in the bottom of the first for Defiance by slapping the Matt Klausing offering to right center for a one-out double. Harris then swiped third before crossing the plate two batters later on the first of six errors from Thomas More.
The 1-0 lead lasted into the third when the Saints pushed three across with one swing of Brad Ketterers bat. With runners on second and third with two outs, Ketterer cleared the left field fence for the 3-1 lead.
Thomas More increased its lead to 7-1 with four runs in the sixth and put the game out of reach with another four spot in the top of the eighth inning.
The Yellow Jackets did strike again in the seventh as Lenny Koesters doubled and scored on a Tim Pitro single, but it was not enough as Thomas More rolled to the 11-2 win.
Zane Teeters (1-1) took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 5.1 innings. Patrick McKee, Matt Wilson and Travis Brewer combined for the final 3.2 innings for Defiance.
Klausing (5-1) pitched around six errors by the Saints and held DC to two unearned tallies in seven innings of work.
Defiance (10-17) will host Anderson on Friday at 4:00 pm before playing a pair of games at Anderson on Saturday.
