Defiance Pounds 11 Hits in Loss at Maryville
MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- DC continued its early-season swing to open the 2007 season on Saturday, heading three hours further south to take on Maryville less than 19 hours after finishing its season opener at Centre. The Jackets collected 11 hits, but only managed two runs and fell by a 10-2 score.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- DC continued its early-season swing to open the 2007 season on Saturday, heading three hours further south to take on Maryville less than 19 hours after finishing its season opener at Centre. The Jackets collected 11 hits, but only managed two runs and fell by a 10-2 score.
The Scots put the game away early, plating a trio of runs in the first, second and third innings to take a commanding 9-0 lead and added another in the fourth to cap the 10-run outburst.
Defiance clawed out a run in the fifth and eighth innings before falling by the 10-2 margin.
Jeremy Hawkins led the attack with three hits and Lenny Koesters, Brad Timofeev and David Jackson each had multi-hit games.
The Yellow Jacket bullpen faired well as Brandon Portales hurled three scoreless innings and was followed by Matt Wilson and Patrick McKee who each tossed one scoreless frame in relief.
Defiance (0-2) will head to Port Charlotte, Fla. for eight games over the next week.
