Honoring 2020 Spring Sports Seniors: Women’s Track and Field
This week, in conjunction with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, Defiance College and its athletic department are honoring seniors who were part of spring sports in 2020. Women’s track and field is the fourth sport featured and the seniors on this year’s team included Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton), Malia Ferry (Milford, Ohio/Milford), Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) and Kat Wicher (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer).

Degree: Bachelor of Science, Exercise Science
Future Plans: "Attend the University of Findlay to obtain my Doctorate of Physical Therapy."
Why You Chose DC: "I decided to come to Defiance College because it let me be involved in a lot of different things – sports to a service fraternity to Res Life and still get a good education."
Favorite DC Memory: "I don't have one specific memory for either sport. I just really appreciate all the great friends I have made and all the cool experiences I have been able to be a part of."

Degree: B.S., Early Childhood Education/Intervention Specialist
Future Plans: "Find a job as a teacher."
Why You Chose DC: "Provided me the opportunity to continue my education and athletics."
Favorite DC Memory: "All of the teammates I've gotten to meet and make memories with."
BLAKE NEWMAN | Competed in 12 events

Degree: B.S., Social Work (minor, psychology)
Future Plans: "Go to graduate school at the University of Michigan to get my Master of Social Work."
Why You Chose DC: "I loved the feeling of the family atmosphere I got when I visited campus. I knew I could be an athlete and still be involved in so many other activities."
Favorite DC Memory: "Soccer - Beating Bluffton and scoring my first college goal junior year. Track - PRing in javelin after finishing a 4x400 while it was raining at Cedarville, or watching Madi Bowman break records."
KAT WICHER | Relays

Degree: B.S., Psychology (minor, sport and exercise psychology)
Future Plans: "Attend graduate school for a master's in sport psychology."
Why You Chose DC: "Loved the smaller campus and how friendly everyone was on campus. I was also able to become a student-athlete."
Favorite DC Memory: "My favorite memory is just all the fun trips and friends I was able to make while being an athlete."
