Three Yellow Jackets Earn HCAC Player of the Week Honors
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Beau Barkley, Jarren Casto, and Madi Bowman have all earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports for their performances last week for the Purple and Gold.
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Beau Barkley, Jarren Casto, and Madi Bowman have all earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports for their performances last week for the Purple and Gold.
Junior defensive back Beau Barkley (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Churubusco) earned HCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Defiance. Barkley made 10 tackles, one of them for loss in Saturday's 37-29 loss to Hanover (Ind.) College. He also forced a fumble inside the Hanover five-yard line that was recovered and returned for a score by junior Cody Brown (Grass Lake, Mich.) to get the Yellow Jackets to within eight points with 7:48 to play.
Freshman forward Jarren Casto (Celina) earned HCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance on the pitch this week. Casto scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 6-0 triumph over Anderson (Ind.) University, and added a third score in the 62nd minute of DC's 4-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday.
Sophomore keeper Madi Bowman (Eaton) grabbed HCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after a stellar week in between the pipes. Bowman made 12 stops as the Yellow Jackets stunned Anderson (Ind.) University with a 0-0 draw on Wednesday. She followed that up with 14 more saves in Defiance's 4-1 loss to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
