Miller Claims DC 5K Record at Calvin Invitational
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. /Jay County) led the way for the Defiance College Women's Cross Country team at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational Saturday morning, breaking the school record in the process.
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. /Jay County) led the way for the Defiance College Women's Cross Country team at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational Saturday morning, breaking the school record in the process.
Miller set the Defiance women's 5k record in the race, breaking the previous record by 19 seconds, finishing in a time of 18:52.0. The strong run by Miller placed her 11th overall in a field of 292 racers among 25 teams.
Courtney Kunk (St. Henry) was the second finisher for the Yellow Jackets in the race, finishing with a 21:08.1 to score 102nd. Aaron Textor (Swanton) crossed the line at 21:31.6 and Whitney Schalk (Bellevue) crossed at the 22:00.0 minute mark, finishing behind Kunk, scoring 119th and 122nd.
Kelsey Bowling (Sidney/ Houston) rounded out the scoring for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 137th with a time of 22:32.8. Marissa Bussard (Whitehall/ Bloom-Carroll) and Taylor Traut (Bettsville) finished behind Bowling crossing the line at 22:39.7 and 25:25.7 respectively.
Defiance finished with 491 points in the event, finishing 18th overall as a team.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets will be a trip to Mason, Ohio on Sept. 27 for the Wilmington Pre-Nationals Meet. The race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
