Women's Cross Country Has Record Breaking End to the Season
MASON, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s cross country team finished their season with a trip to Mason, Ohio for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Regional Championships and placed 24th overall.
MASON, OHIO – The Defiance College women's cross country team finished their season with a trip to Mason, Ohio for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Regional Championships and placed 24th overall.
The Yellow Jackets posted a team score of 733 points to give them the 24th spot out of 35 teams that competed.
Individually, Defiance was led by sophomore Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County). Miller produced another record-breaking performance as she broke her own previous 6k record, which was set last year at regionals that took place at Calvin (Mich.) College. Miller crossed the line at 22:28.4 to place 22nd which is the highest finish ever by a DC athlete at the regional meet. By finishing in the top-35, Miller also earned All-Region honors and became the first-ever, two-time All-Region athlete for Defiance.
Freshman Courtney Kunk (St. Henry) had the second quickest time for the Yellow Jackets. She finished in 161st place with a time of 25:06.2. Her time of 25:06.2 placed her in the top-15 runners all-time for Defiance cross country.
Freshmen Aaron Textor (Swanton) and Whitney Schalk (Bellevue) crossed the line third and fourth for Defiance with times of 25:49.8 and 26:03.3, respectively. Senior Marissa Bussard (Whitehall/Bloom-Carroll) completed the course in a time of 26:45.9 to place fifth on the team. Sophomores Brittany Holmes (Defiance) turned in a mark of 27:09.0 and Kelsey Bowling (Sidney/Houston) rounded out the scoring times for the team at 27:38.1.
