Miller breaks 5k record to lead DC in Wilmington Classic
WILMINGTON, Ohio – Eme Miller led the way for the Defiance College Yellow Jackets Women’s Cross Country team Friday afternoon at the Wilmington #JennaStrong Fall Classic, breaking her own record.
WILMINGTON, Ohio – Eme Miller led the way for the Defiance College Yellow Jackets Women's Cross Country team Friday afternoon at the Wilmington #JennaStrong Fall Classic, breaking her own record.
Miller finished 22nd out of 398 runners from 34 schools that represented all three divisions of the NCAA. The sophomore crossed the line with a DC record time of 19:09.21, topping her own time set earlier this year of 19:10.90.
Sadie Daeger took second for the Yellow Jackets in the 5k event, scoring 176th place overall with a 22:06.44.
Brittney Holmes and Marissa Bussard finished back-to-back, scoring third and fourth for the Yellow Jackets with finishes of 183rd and 184th. Holmes crossed the line with a 22:27.07 and Bussard finished less than a second behind with a 22:28.00.
Kelsey Bowling finished just a few positions behind to round out the scoring for Defiance. Bowling came in with a finish of 22:46.53 for a finish of 189th place in scoring.
DC finished in 26th overall, scoring 753 points. The Yellow Jackets averaged 21:47.45 among the scoring runners.
The Yellow Jackets will now set their sights on the HCAC Championships on November 2. DC will host the championships, with the women running a 6k. The race is set to begin at 11 a.m.
