Miller takes third to lead DC at HCAC Championships
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Eme Miller set a Defiance College record time on Saturday and matched the Yellow Jackets best finish for an individual in school history to lead Defiance in the 2013 HCAC Championships.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Eme Miller set a Defiance College record time on Saturday and matched the Yellow Jackets best finish for an individual in school history to lead Defiance in the 2013 HCAC Championships.
Miller, a sophomore, took third overall with a 22:54.5 in the Women's 6,000-meter event, breaking the school record by Ellen Stryffeler set in 2011. Miller's time was 31.9 seconds faster than Stryffeler's time.
Saturday's third place performance by Miller also tied the school's best ever finish in the HCAC Championships, which was also set by Stryffeler in 2011.
Miller's finish on Saturday also earned her HCAC All-Conference recognition and she was also named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
Kyrsten King took second place for Defiance in the championships, which were held on the campus of Defiance College. The freshman paced a 6:57 mile for a finishing time of 25:54.1. King scored 40th overall in the meet.
Brittney Holmes and Sadie Daeger scored back-to-back for Defiance in 46th and 47th place. Holmes crossed the line with a time of 26.25.4, scoring third for the Yellow Jackets. Daeger crossed the line seven seconds later with a 26:32.7.
Marissa Bussard rounded out the scoring for Defiance on the rainy day, scoring 55th overall. Bussard crossed the line with a 27:28.8.
Defiance scored eighth overall in the event with 191 points.
The Yellow Jackets will now set their sights on the NCAA Regional Championships in two weeks on November 16th.
