Volleyball Edged by Engineers in HCAC Play
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Defiance College volleyball continued a busy stretch of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches with a trip to Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to Fighting Engineers is a tight five-set match.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Defiance College volleyball continued a busy stretch of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches with a trip to Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to Fighting Engineers in a tight five-set match.
Defiance came out strong in the opening set, pulling off a 25-23 victory. Rose-Hulman rallied to take the next two sets 25-15 and 25-23.
The Yellow Jackets carried over the momentum from a close third set to claim a 25-20 fourth set win, forcing a deciding game.
A period of back-and-forth action ended the fifth set as the home side was able to hang on to a 16-14 win to wrap up the HCAC outing.
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets had three players tally double-digit kills during today's contest. Senior Jessi Davis (Delta, Ohio / Delta) lead the way, totaling a season-high, 17 kills. Following close behind were sophomores Mackenzie Benham (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) who recorded 16 kills and Delaney Monnin (Defiance, Ohio/ Tinora) who recorded 10.
Defensively, Morgan Porter (Defiance, Ohio/ Defiance) lead the digs category for the Yellow Jackets once again, tallying 45 digs in the five sets.
In addition to her impressive offensive performance, Benham managed to record 11 digs on the day as well.
The Defiance record falls to 13-8 overall and 1-1 in HCAC play. The Yellow Jackets will return to action in the Karl H. Weaner Center as they welcome Anderson to campus on Wednesday, October 16. Action with the Ravens is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
