Volleyball Soars to HCAC Victory

A brief period of back-and-forth started out the contest in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. DC pushed towards the first set victory midway through the action with a stretch of four straight points and a run of eight out of ten points.
The momentum immediately swung into the second set as DC jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the hosts tallied their first point. Defiance wrapped up the sweep by battling through a tough third set to head home with the win.
Mackenzie Benham (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) led the Yellow Jackets on the attack in the HCAC affair. The sophomore recorded 11 kills while also tallying four digs.
Defensively, Morgan Porter (Defiance / Defiance) continued her double-digit dig streak as she recorded a team-high 25.
Brianna Wheeler (Sturgis, Mich. / Sturgis) dished out 27 assists and two aces to help DC to the conference win, while Mackenzie Umbaugh (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) led the way at the net with four total blocks.
Defiance improves to 13-7 overall and 1-1 in the HCAC with the victory. DC will continue the rigorous conference schedule with a trip to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, October 12. Action with the Fightin' Engineers is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
