Volleyball Begins Bishop Invitational with Otterbein Rematch
DELAWARE, Ohio - In a rematch of the season-opening battle, Defiance College volleyball took on the Otterbein Cardinals as part of another weekend-long tournament. This time at the Bishop Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan, the Yellow Jackets took one game from the in-state foe before falling 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-13).

This time at the Bishop Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan, the Yellow Jackets took one game from the in-state foe before falling 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-13).
The Cardinals took the first two sets of action before Defiance rallied to a tight 25-21 victory in the third. After a quick start from Otterbein, a series of Abigail Cronin (Lambertville, Mich. / Cardinal Stritch Catholic) serves saw DC take a 5-3 lead. After maintaining the lead for most of the set, a Mackenzie Benham (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) kill wrapped up the loan set victory for the Yellow Jackets.
Benham tallied five kills on the day, preceded by Jessi Davis (Delta / Delta) and Delaney Monnin (Defiance / Tinora) with eight kills each. Mackenzie Umbaugh (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) and Emma Seitz (Toledo / Central Catholic) recorded three and two kills respectively in the battle with the Cardinals.
Brianna Wheeler (Sturgis, Mich. / Sturgis) found her way onto the statsheet with 21 assists in the affair while Morgan Porter (Defiance / Defiance) tallied a team-high 14 digs from her libero position.
The Yellow Jackets now stand at 7-4 on the year before they return to action on a busy Saturday. DC will take on Wilmington at 1:00 pm be 3:00 pm before facing the hosts, Ohio Wesleyan, at 3:00 pm.
