DC splits 1-1 on day two

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Yellow Jackets split again on day two of the DePauw Invitational.  This time they took down Baldwin Wallace University before dropping the second match to Millikin University.

The first match against BW (7-6) was a thrilling one.  DC (7-6) topped BW 3-2 with sets of 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11.

Alicia Kalik (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) led the way for the Yellow Jackets with her fourth double-double of the season.  She finished with 37 assists and 20 digs.

Joining Kalik at the 20 dig milestone were Jaidyn Patridge (Toledo, Ohio / Springfield) and Rebecca Kain (Orland, Ind. / Prairie Heights).  Patridge finished with a career-high 22 digs for DC.  Kain led the Yellow Jackets in the dig department with 28.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets finished with 115 digs.

Ari Mahaffey (Porter, Ind. / Chesterton) also put together a big game for DC.  She joined Kalik in finishing with a double-double.  Mahaffey led DC in kills with 16 while adding 13 digs.

On the net, Meredith Shank (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield) and Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) contributed to DC's success with 12 kills and 11 kills, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets were in for a tough time for their next match.  They faced the #25 ranked team in the nation in Millikin (10-1).

DC would drop 3-0 by way of 25-11, 25-8, 25-19.

Anderson would lead DC in kills in match two with seven.  Mahaffey and Kelsey Tietje (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) would add four apiece.

Kalik would total 17 assists in the match.

Leading DC in digs once again was Kain with eight.  Patridge would add seven and Caroline Hesterman (Fort Wayne, Ind. / North Side) would contribute with six.

For her play over the two day DePauw Invitational, Kalik was named to the All-Tournament Team.

DC will be back in action on September 20 when they head to Angola, Ind. for a tri-match with Alma and host Trine.  The Yellow Jackets first faceoff against Alma at 3 pm followed by Trine with a start time of 6 pm.
