DC Volleyball Earns a Split Against Case and Muskingum

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket volleyball team finished up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon with matches against Case Western Reserve and Muskingum. Defiance earned a split on the day, as the Jackets lost in five sets to Case and defeated Muskingum in straight-sets.
The Purple and Gold faced the Spartans in the first match of the day. Case Western brought a 18-9 record into the contest. The match was highly contested, as the squads split the first four sets 2-2. The Spartans proved to be too much in the end and won the decisive fifth set by a score of 15-11. The set scores for the match were 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-11.
Defiance did not let the hard-fought five-set loss ruin its day, as the Jackets quickly regrouped and turned its attention to Muskingum. DC came out strong and won the opening set of the match. The Yellow Jackets did not take its foot off the gas and cruised to a straight-set win over the Muskies.
Defiance finished 11-9 in its non-conference portion of the schedule, marking the first time DC had a winning record out of conference since 2009. The Jackets also moved their record to an impressive 11-6 in matches played on a neutral court. The squad's overall record moves to 16-11 after today's action.
The Purple and Gold return home for a crucial Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Sunday against Rose-Hulman in a battle for third place in the conference standings. The showdown is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
