Jackets End 2010 with Pair of Non-Conference Victories

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Defiance College volleyball team brought its 2010 season to a close on a positive note on Saturday with non-conference victories over Oberlin and Adrian. The Jackets swept Oberlin, before edging Adrian in five sets in the season finale.

The sweep of Oberlin was DC's second 3-0 victory against Oberlin of the season. This time around, the Jackets took the 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 win behind a collective 25 kills without a hitting error from Marlea Rolander and Jessica Tietje. Rolander slammed 14 kills in 22 swings and added six blocks, while Tietje had 11 kills in 21 tries. Sara Porter logged a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs and Kelsey Ferguson tossed up 27 assists to go with seven digs.

Rolander continued her hot hitting in a 25-18, 23-25, 28-30, 25-12, 15-12 win against Adrian in the second match of the day, as the Napoleon High product closed her junior season with 16 kills and one error in 31 swings. Chelsea Ludeman capped her successful rookie campaign with a 14-kill, 12-dig, three-block double-double and Meghan Hinds added 10 kills in 18 swings.

The match closed the careers of DC's senior class of Porter, Ferguson, Julie Brunsman and Heather Bradshaw.

Defiance ended the year with a 14-17 overall record and is set to return 14 letterwinners from the squad for the 2011 campaign.
