DC Volleyball Sweeps Past Transylvania and UC-Clermont
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College volleyball team picked up its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday, with a 3-0 win at Transylvania.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College volleyball team picked up its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday, with a 3-0 win at Transylvania. The Jackets also topped Cincinnati Clermont in straight sets in a non-conference contest.
Marlea Rolander led Defiance past Transylvania in the opener, as the sophomore blocker hit .562 and slammed nine kills and five blocks in the 25-20, 25-23, 25-15 Yellow Jacket victory.
DC dominated the Pioneers at the net all throughout the match, with Michelle Sikora piling up eight blocks of her own and Jessica Tietje contributing seven block assists. The play of Defiance's middle blockers was supported by seven kills from Danyel Lipps and 16 assists and an ace from Kelsey Ferguson.
The Jackets stayed hot in a 25-22, 25-13, 25-13 win over the University of Cincinnati Clermont in the second match of the afternoon.
Julie Brunsman paced the attack with 17 assists, six digs and one ace, while Sara Porter notched eight kills and Lipps tacked on seven. Rolander posted a .385 hitting percentage to go along with six kills, two solo blocks, two block assists and one ace.
Defiance (15-9, 1-3 HCAC) will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Anderson (11-8, 1-1 HCAC) in another key conference clash on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
