Volleyball Tops Transylvania in Straight Sets

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance kept pace with Mount St. Joseph atop the HCAC standings with a three-set win over Transylvania on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-1 in league play and remained tied with the Lions as the only one-loss teams in the conference.
DC turned in one of its best offensive outputs of the season, posting a .312 hitting percentage in the 25-12, 25-20, 25-21 victory over the Pioneers. Defiance put away 15 kills in the opening set without committing an error and ended the afternoon with 44 kills and only nine miscues in 112 swings.
Danyel Lipps led the Jackets with her tenth double-double of the season after posting 14 kills, 13 digs and four service aces to lead the squad in all three categories. Lipps was nearly flawless in the win, hitting .467 with no hitting errors in her 30 attempts.
Kristen Nicely joined Lipps in double figures with 14 kills of her own and Julie Brunsman fueled the offense with 42 assists.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-11 overall and 4-1 in the HCAC with the victory and will be right back in action on Sunday when they host Rose-Hulman (18-12, 2-3 HCAC) at 1:00 pm.
DC's match with Rose-Hulman will be part of the "Dig for a Cure" program. All proceeds and donations from the match will go directly to the Northwest Ohio's Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
