DC Falls in Straight Sets to No. 13 Ohio Northern

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College volleyball team hosted the No. 13 Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Tuesday inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center and came away with a three-set defeat.
Ohio Northern started fast and never looked back, smacking down 13 kills in the opening set en route to the 25-9 victory. ONU took only 21 swings and committed just one error while posting a .571 hitting percentage.
Defiance improved as the night went along but could not match the powerful ONU attack. The Jackets held early leads in each of the final two sets, before falling 25-12 and 25-22.
DC struggled to find its rhythm on the offensive side of the ball and only connected on 19 kills as a team, while totaling 22 miscues.
Kristen Nicely tallied eight of DC's 19 kills, while Lauren Aldridge and Sara Porter combined for seven. Porter also tallied 11 digs to lead the team and Marlea Rolander ended the match with a pair of blocks.
Defiance falls to 8-8 with the loss and will look to right the ship this weekend when it plays a pair of road HCAC contests. DC will play at Hanover on Friday at 7:30 pm, before taking the court at Franklin for a 12:00 pm start on Saturday.
