Bio

Tom Postema is in his seventh season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Defiance College men's and women's track and field programs in 2020-21.

A former standout member of the Yellow Jackets' men's track and field team, Postema concluded his throwing career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Defiance history. In his senior season, he became track and field’s first male to win a national championship, claiming the NCAA Division III title with a throw of 64.67 meters in the hammer throw during the 2013 outdoor season. At the same national meet, he finished in second place in the discus with a toss of 54.42 meters. A multiple All-American and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion, Postema still holds school records in the discus (56.27m), hammer (65.80m), indoor shot put (16.99m), outdoor shot put (17.04m) and weight throw (20.72m), and is also the current record-holder in several events at the HCAC Championships.

A Defiance native and graduate of Tinora High School, Postema earned his Bachelor of Arts in accounting from DC in May 2013. He currently works as a financial representative for Postema Insurance and Investments LLC.
