Track and Field competes at CapFam Alumni Classic
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Defiance College men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the new year with their first meet this afternoon at the CapFam Alumni Classic.
There were no team scores for the event. Participating schools on both sides were Defiance, Asbury, Capital, Mount Vernon Nazarene, and Ohio Dominican.
On the women's side, Myahn Smith ran the 200 meter for the first time this season and recorded a time of 28.62 seconds which earned her a fifth place finish. Shelby Clements also ran the 200 for the first time and placed ninth with a time of 30.43 seconds.
On the men's side, David Heidelburg recorded a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 8.97 meters, earning an 11th place finish. Ron Scott placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.27 meters. The 4x100 relay team of Montgomery Rollins, Gavin Maratea, Michael Martin, and Tawon Cannon placed fifth with a time of 3:43.79. The same quad placed fourth in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:38.32.
Jeremiah Benton ran the 60 meter dash in 8.09 seconds and Cannon placed 13th in the 60 meter dash with a sprint of 7.35 seconds.
