The Defiance women finished eighth of nine teams with a total of 11 points while the men finished seventh of nine teams with 33 points. Evansville placed first in the men's meet while Southern Indiana won the women's meet.
"We were pretty excited with the efforts of everyone," said Defiance head coach Nathan Christianson. "Overall I was really happy with everyone's efforts. It's still early in the season and we will continue to get better."
Lisa Markau and Shi'Nique Lawrence placed sixth and seventh in the women's 100 meters. Markau also placed eighth in the 200 with a time of 28.60 seconds while Lawrence finished fourth in the high jump with a new personal best of 1.40m.
"Our ladies sprinters had a really great day across the board and all four of them had a strong 200 to end the meet. Lisa and Shi'Nique did really well in their last race of the day." Christianson said.
Joshua Gaffney placed first in the men's 400 meters with a time of 52.60 seconds.
"Josh had a great 400. He's been battling some injuries so to get a win today was a nice little confidence booster," said Christianson of the young runner.
Robert Marshall placed third in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 11.20 and 23.11 seconds.
Throwers Tyrel Goings and Ron Scott both set new personal best marks in the discus with marks of 32.02m and 31.79m.
John Reese made his debut in the men's 3000 steeplechase, placing fifth with a time of 11:36.07.
"John had a really good first steeple. Everyone's first steeple is always tough and he got through it. He's going to do really well in this event in the future," said Christianson.
Christianson also noted the performance of Tawon Cannon in the 400 hurdles saying "Tawon had an amazing race despite clipping the last hurdle and falling down. He was leading until the last hurdle. He's going to be a huge contributor at conference for us. Sometimes you need a disappointment like that to keep you motivated. He will bounce back and be ready to go next week."
Both teams will return to Owensboro next Friday for the Brescia Blue & Gold Twilight meet.
