Led by newly appointed head coach, Nathan Christianson, the Yellow Jackets top finisher on the day was Madi Bowman (Eaton/Eaton). The senior recorded a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.75 meters. The Eaton native then followed up with a shot put of 10.80 meters, landing 12th in the competition.
"Pretty good and exciting day for Madi," said Christianson. "Making finals in the weight throw made for a pretty good opener."
Lisa Maria Markau (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) and Malia Ferry (Milford/Milford) each competed in the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash for DC. Markau tabbed finishing times of 8.72 and 31.01 seconds in the pair of races. Ferry followed up her teammate with times of 9.24 and 31.81 seconds.
The lone competitor on the men's side, Tyler Hines (Cincinnati/Northwest) took on the challenge of the 200 meter dash. The junior finished with a time of 27.76 in the event.
"We haven't had a chance to practice a whole lot, so I am happy we got a chance to compete today," mentioned Christianson. "I'm excited about the opportunity here at Defiance. It's a great group with great energy. That makes for a great start to build this program."
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday, Jan. 18, as they travel to Tiffin as part of the Tiffin Dragon Open.
