Pair of Throwers Highlight Day One of HCACs

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team is sitting in the sixth position after day one of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet on Friday.
Seniors Hannah Williams (Pettisville) and Brooke Waidelich (Swanton) led Defiance with a second and third-place finish, respectively in the discus. Williams posted a best toss of 40.06 meters (131 feet, 5 inches), while Waidelich's toss was 38.94 meters (127 feet, 9 inches).
Defiance's best finish in the shot put also came from Waidelich, whose toss of 10.77 meters (35 feet, 4 inches) gave her a 10th place finish.
In the pole vault competition, freshman Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green) vaulted a personal-best 3.12 meters (10 feet, 3 inches), leaping her into the second best vaulter in school history and placing her in the eighth spot in the event.
On the track, freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance) led the charge by qualifying for the finals in the 800 meter run with a third place finish in her heat, running her collegiate best, a time of 2:27.43, and moving her into the fifth spot all-time.
Senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) wrapped up her college career with a PR in the 400 meter dash, a time of 1:04.98, a time that was 0.35 seconds shy of qualifying for the final.
Defiance will look to rack up more points on the second day of the HCAC Championships on Saturday, Apr. 28. The meet is set to begin at 3 p.m.
