Yellow Jackets Wrap Up Regular Season at Ohio Northern
ADA, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University to participate in the Polar Bear Invitational in their final meet before next week's HCAC Championships.
ADA, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University to participate in the Polar Bear Invitational in their final meet before next week's HCAC Championships.
Defiance placed sixth out of six highly competitive teams, scoring 38 points. Ohio Northern won the meet, followed by Findlay and Manchester.
Senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) led the way for the throwers, tossing the disc a career-best 40.52 meters (132 feet, 11 inches). That throw moves her into the second spot on the all-time DC list in the event. Waidelich also added an eighth place finish in the hammer throw.
A pair of Yellow Jacket throwers added points, as well, as senior Hannah Williams (Swanton) placed eighth in the discus, improving her mark as the third-best in school history, while senior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) was seventh in the shot put, which was a career-best and improved her mark as the sixth-best in DC history.
Sophomore Madi Bowman (Eaton) also garnered a personal-best of over two meters, throwing 35.25 meters (115 feet, 8 inches) to move onto the school's top-10 list in the discus.
Switching gears to the track, freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance) led the way by jumping onto the Defiance College top 10 list for the second week in a row, this time in the 1500 meter run. She placed in the sixth spot with a time of 5:17.16, earning the 10th spot all-time at DC.
Three Yellow Jackets scored in the 100-meter dash, led by senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) in the fifth position. Senior Laura Lutzke (Williamston, Mich.) and sophomore Katie Settich (Huber Heights/Chaminade Julienne) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
Sophomore Malia Ferry (Milford) also placed seventh in the 400 meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:08.47, while freshman Mackenzie Moerhman (Deshler/Patrick Henry) added points with a sixth place run in the 100 meter hurdles.
The lone relay that the Yellow Jackets put on the track was the team of Robbins, Ferry, Lutzke, and Moerhman, who placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.88 seconds.
Defiance will look to end their season on a high note on Friday, Apr. 27 and Saturday, Apr. 28 with the HCAC Championship meet. It will be hosted by Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind. and is set for a 3 p.m. start on Friday for day one action.
