DC Women Place Eighth at Otterbein
WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s track and field team competed in the April Fools Invitational at Otterbein College on Good Friday, placing eighth as a team.
WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in the April Fools Invitational at Otterbein College on Good Friday, placing eighth as a team.
Senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) led the way in throwing events, as she grabbed a second place finish under the lights in the discus with a personal-best throw of 39.32 meters (129 feet), which moved her into fourth place on Defiance's all-time list. Waidelich also placed ninth in the hammer throw with a best toss on the day of 41.79 meters (137 feet, 1 inch).
Senior Hannah Williams (Swanton) finished right behind her in third with a best mark of 37.35 meters (122 feet, 6 inches). She also added a fifth-place toss in the hammer throw with a best of 46.13 meters (151 feet, 4 inches).
Also adding points for the Yellow Jackets was senior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) in the javelin, who threw 24.46 meters (80 feet, 3 inches) to grab an eighth-place mark.
Leading the jumpers was freshman Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green), who placed in the eighth spot in the long jump with a best leap of 4.71 meters (15 feet, 5 inches).
The 4x100 meter relay team that included freshman Mackenzie Moerhman (Deshler/Patrick Henry), Trimpey, sophomore Malia Ferry (Milford), and senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) placed in the fourth spot with a time of 55.74 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action with the two-day Marv Frye Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University. The hammer and javelin competitions will take place on Friday with the rest of the meet beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
