Women Finish Fifth at Rose-Hulman
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team placed in the fifth position in the opener to the outdoor season, the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday.

Defiance scored 60 points as a team, squeaking past DePauw (59) and defeating Thomas More (25) and St. Mary-of-the-Woods (2). Baldwin Wallace knocked off HCAC Indoor Champion, Rose-Hulman to win the meet.
Senior Hannah Williams (Swanton) highlighted the day for the Yellow Jackets by bringing home a victory in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 46.96 meters (154 feet, 1 inch). That throw makes Williams the second-best hammer thrower in DC history, behind Julie Risenburg's mark of 48.08 meters in 2004. Senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) added a third-place finish in the hammer with a best toss of 42.87 meters (140 feet, 8 inches).
Williams also finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 35.05 meters (115 feet), while Waidelich finished fifth with a toss of 34.24 meters (112 feet, 4 inches).
Senior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) scored points in the throws, as well, as her throw of 10.45 meters (34 feet, 3.5 inches) gave her a third-place finish.
Freshman Meagan Trimpey (Bowling Green) led the charge of jumpers, as she started her outdoor career with a second-place finish in the pole vault. Her clearance of 2.88 meters (9 feet, 5.25 inches) was also good enough to put her in the seventh spot on DC's top-10 list.
Trimpey also finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 4.43 meters (14 feet, 6.5 inches), while freshman Mackenzie Moehreman (Deshler/Patrick Henry) placed seventh with a mark of 4.36 meters (14 feet, 3.75 inches).
Senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) led the sprinters in their first meet of the season by placing in two events. Robbins started the day with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.96 seconds) and followed that up with a sixth-place run in the 200-meter dash (28.78 seconds).
Also adding points for Defiance in the hurdles races were freshman Kaitlyn Hughes (Van Wert/Crestview), who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, while Moehrman finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles race.
Freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance) led the distance team by finishing 11th out of 22 runners in the 1500-meter run (5:34.86), and then following that up with a 10th place run in the 800-meter run (2:41.91).
Defiance will get back to action on Saturday, Mar. 24 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
