Williams Takes Third In Discus at HCAC Championships
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in day two of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University. All but two events were completed due to weather conditions.
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in day two of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University. All but two events were completed due to weather conditions.
Without those two events results the women hold an eighth place finish with 29 points. Hanover (Ind.) Colege is in first place with a team total of 155 points.
Junior Hannah Williams (Swanton) led the Yellow Jackets in a pair of events in both the discus and hammer. In the discus, Williams placed third with a throw of 127' 4.50". She went on to finish fourth in the hammer with a toss of 144' 1.25".
Also posting high marks in the discus was junior teammate Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) who placed fourth overall with a distance of 119' 6.75". In addition, freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) also placed in the top-10 after recording a mark of 104' 4.75" which put her 10th overall. Senior Katie Tilman (Mimai Springs, Fla./Immaculata-LaSalle) had a 13th-place finish with a best throw of 96' 10.25".
In the hammer throw, three more DC competitors placed in the top-10 in addition to Williams. Waidelich took sixth place (143' 3.00") and senior Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) and junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) placed ninth (142' 11.00") and tenth (127' 10.00").
In the running events, junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) recorded the top overall performance with a 14th-place effort in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.91 seconds.
The Jackets will return to competition as a team on Saturday, May 13 in Naperville, Ill. They will compete in the North Central Gregory Invitational at 11:45 a.m.
