DC Women Complete Day One of HCAC Championships
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in day one of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University. The Yellow Jackets are currently in sixth place following the first events of competition.
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in day one of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University. The Yellow Jackets are currently in sixth place following the first events of competition.
DC scored a total of 10 points which is good enough for sixth place out of 10 teams. Hanover (Ind.) College currently leads the team standings with 47 points and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology is second with 29 points. Bluffton University rounds out the top three with 21.5 points.
The Jackets fared well in the shot put event with DC taking fifth through eighth place. Senior Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) was the top placer for Defiance, earning fifth place with a throw of 37' 6.00". Following Walker was junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) in sixth place (36' 9.75"). In seventh place was senior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-LaSalle) with a throw of 36' 3.00". Junior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) placed eighth and had a throw of 34' 2.75".
The top finish in the running events for DC came in the 100-meter dash prelims with junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) crossing the finish line in a time of 13.64 seconds which put her in 11th place.
Robbins went on to compete in the 400-meter dash prelims and ran a time of 1:04.06 which was good enough for 13th place. Finishing just behind in 14th place was freshman teammate Malia Ferry (Milford) with a time of 1:05.87.
The Jackets will return to competition tomorrow (Saturday, Apr. 28) with the second day of events of the HCAC Championships at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. The day's events begin at 10 a.m.
