DC Women Compete in All-Ohio Championships
DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the annual All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the annual All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Yellow Jackets ended the meet with a team total of one point to place 17th of 17 teams. Host school Ohio Wesleyan took the team title with 111 points. Ohio Northern University was second with 100 points and Otterbein University was third at 99 points.
The top finishes for Defiance all came in the throwing events led by junior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) who placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 145' 10.00". DC had two other athletes finish in the top-20 in the event with junior Hannah Williams (Santon) placing 13th (137' 9.00") and senior Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) placing 18th overall (131' 3.00").
Other top-20 finishes included 14th and 15th-place efforts in the shot put by senior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-LaSalle) and junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North). Tilman recorded a distance of 36' 6.25" which was good enough for 14th place, while Santen came in with a distance of 36' 5.75" to place 15th.
In the discus, Williams posted the top mark for the Jackets of 120' 8.00" and finished just outside of the top-10 in 11th place. Waidelich finished two spots back in 13th following a best toss of 119' 2.00".
Santen had the best finish for DC in the javelin in ninth place with a distance of 100' 6.00".
"We had over 10 personal bests today with a small squad and competing kids in limited events," said Head Coach Ken Ciolek. "The All-Ohio championships is a very high level meet and our kids responded great posting some great times and marks."
The team will return to competition on Friday, Apr. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind at the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology Twilight Meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
