Yellow Jackets Place Fourth at Huntington Invite
HUNTINGTON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track & field team competed in the Huntington (Ind.) University Invitational and placed fourth overall.
HUNTINGTON, IND. -- The Defiance College women's track & field team competed in the Huntington (Ind.) University Invitational and placed fourth overall.
The Yellow Jackets finished with 44 points to place fourth of six teams. Manchester (Ind.) University came out as the winner in the team standings with 177 points. Adrian (Mich.) College was second with 157 points and host school Huntington was third at 118 points.F
Defiance had two competitors place in the top-10 in the hammer throw with junior Hannah Williams (Swanton) finishing ninth with a throw of 129' 10.00". Fellow junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) placed 10th with a distance of 127' 10.00".
Santen went on to lead the DC competitors in the shot put with a fourth-place showing and a mark of 35' 11.25". Senior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) also posted a top-10 finish of seventh place in a toss of 34' 7.00."
Santen also had a top-10 showing in the javelin with a longest toss of 100' 1.00" which was good enough for eighth overall. Senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) placed just behind Santen in ninth place and a distance of 99' 6.00".
Junior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) led two Jackets in the top-10 of the discus with a third-place effort having recorded a best distance of 124' 1.00". Williams followed behind in sixth place with a distance of 115' 6.00".
Highlighting the performances in the running events was a seventh-place finish by junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in a time of 28.13 seconds.
"We had over 19 "PR's," including a couple of event winners on the day," said Head Coach Ken Ciolek. "I was really proud of the way the team competed today."
Defiance will travel to Delaware, Ohio next Saturday (Apr. 15) for the annual All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
