Women's Track Finishes 15th at Cedarville Open
CEDARVILLE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team placed 15th at the Cedarville University Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open in Cedarville, Ohio.
CEDARVILLE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team placed 15th at the Cedarville University Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open in Cedarville, Ohio.
The Yellow Jackets finished the meet with 16 points to place 15th of 18 teams. Wright State University won the team title with 138.5 points and was followed by host school Cedarville in second place with 122 points. Rounding out the top three schools was Mount Union University with 110 points.
Individually, DC was led in the running events by junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) who placed in the top-20 in two events. She finished 19th in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 13.29 seconds. Robbins also ran in the 200-meter dash and posted a mark of 27.81 seconds, placing 17th.
The Jackets posted three top-five finishes in the field events beginning with a third-place finish in the discus by junior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) who had a best toss of 121' 0.00".
Senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and junior Hannah Williams (Swanton) recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes in the javelin and hammer throws. Heeter recorded a top distance of 103' 2.00" in the javelin, while Williams was fifth in the hammer thanks to a best mark of 139' 6.00".
Williams also went on to place seventh in the discus with a distance of 112' 7.00". In addition, freshman Madison Bowman (Eaton) competed in the event and finished in the top-20 with a distance of 100' 4.00" placing her 17th overall.
"We had 19 personal bests today in some heavy winds," said Head Coach Ken Ciolek. "We're starting to get some key pieces healthy which will be exciting as we'll see some big times and marks coming down the road."
The Jackets will return to action next Saturday, Apr. 1, when they travel to Hanover, Ind. for the Hanover (Ind.) College Invitational. The first event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
