Women Compete in Ohio Northern Invitational
ADA, OHIO- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University today (Feb. 6) to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational and finished in 15th place with seven points.
ADA, OHIO- The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Ohio Northern University today (Feb. 6) to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational and finished in 15th place with seven points.
Leading the Yellow Jackets was junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) who competed in the 3000-meter run and claimed a third-place finish out of 34 runners. She completed the race with a time of 10:34.10.
Also placing in the top-20 individually in the running events was sophomore Aaron Textor (Swanton) who finished the 1000-meter run in a time of 3:37.90 to finish in 15th place.
The Jackets 4x400-meter relay squad finished 12th with a time of 4:58.52. Members of the relay were sophomore Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial), Textor, sophomore Laura Lutzke (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) and Miller.
In field events, the Jackets performed well in the weight throw competition. Junior Alexis Walker (Fort Meyers, Fla./Fort Meyers) finished 11th with a toss of 40' 6.75". Following Walker were sophomores Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) who placed 15th with a toss of 39' 1.00", Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) who was 17th with a throw of 38' 7.00" and sophomore Hannah Williams was 18th with a distance of 37' 7.25". In addition, senior Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich./Airport) placed 20th with a mark of 37' 0.50".
Defiance had two women finish in the top-ten in the shot put competition. Santen clinched an eighth-place spot with her toss of 36' 0.25" and Walker finished 10th with a toss of 34' 0.00". Finishing closely behind was Waidelich with a throw of 33' 7.25" which was good enough for 13th place.
Defiance will host the Defiance College Open on Friday, Feb. 12 at the George M. Smart Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
