Women Place Fifth at Defiance Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO- Defiance women's track and field team hosted their first indoor track meet of the season at the George M. Smart Center and finished in fifth place overall with a team score of 41 points.
DEFIANCE, OHIO- Defiance women's track and field team hosted their first indoor track meet of the season at the George M. Smart Center and finished in fifth place overall with a team score of 41 points.
The top individual performance was turned in by junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) who captured the 5000-meter run with a mark of 18:13.18. Her time in the event broke her own school record which she set in 2014 and also set a George M. Smart facility record that was previously set in 2013. She also posted a third-place finish in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:28.68.
In the women's 200-meter dash, sophomore Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) recorded the top time for DC with a ninth-place showing in a time of 29.38 seconds. Sophomore Laura Lutzke (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) also competed in the event and finished in 14th place with a time of 30.71 seconds. In addition, Robbins also competed in the 400-meter dash and crossed the finish line in eighth place in 1:10.91.
In the women's one-mile run, sophomore Aaron Textor (Swanton) finished in seventh place running a time of 6:11.18.
In the field events, Defiance had three women make it to the finals in the shot put. Junior Alexis Walker (Fort Meyers, Fla./Fort Meyers) finished in third place with a throw of 35' 3.00". Sophomore Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished fifth with a toss of 34' 2.00", and junior Katie Tillman (Miami Springs Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) finished sixth with a mark of 34' 0.25".
In the women's weight throw, DC had one athlete make it to the finals in sophomore Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) who finished sixth with a distance of 42' 1.25".
Up next for the DC women, the Jackets will travel to Ada, Ohio for the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday, Feb. 6.
