Yellow Jackets Finish Third At Rose-Hulman Early Bird
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team traveled to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Early Bird Meet and finished third with a team score of 30 points.

The Purple and Gold was led by sophomore Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County), junior Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center) and freshman Hannah Williams (Swanton) who all took home first place finishes for the day.
Miller's first place finish came in the 1500-meter run after crossing the line at the 5:10.63 minute mark. She also competed in the 800-meter run and finished fourth with a time of 2:36.54.
Weaks leapt the distance of 16' 6.5" in the long jump to finish above her competitors. She also competed in the 4x400 relay team with freshman Leah Anderson (Hicksville), junior Jesse Bell (West Salem/Northwestern), and freshman Kaylee Cook (Carthage, N.Y. /Watertown) where they finished third with a time of 4:31.84.
Williams launched the discuss a distance of 119' 9" to finish in first place. Fellow Yellow Jacket freshman Brooke Waidelich (Pettsville) and junior Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich. /Airport) finished in third and fourth behind Williams with distances of 110' 4" and 100' 7", respectively. Williams also competed in the hammer throw and finished third with a distance of 113' 9".
Other Yellow Jackets to finish in the top three include senior Kelsey Bowling (Sidney/Houston), freshman Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill. /Downers Grove North), and sophomore Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla. /Fort Myers). Bowling crossed the line at the 21:34.41 minute mark in the 5000-meter run to finish third. Santen hurled the shot a distance of 34' 5" to finish third and Walker tossed the hammer 123' 9" to finish second.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 28 when they host the Dick Small Invitational at the Justin F. Coressel Stadium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
