Yellow Jackets Host the Defiance Open
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s track and field team hosted their last indoor meet of the winter season at the George M. Smart Center and many Yellow Jackets prevailed in the unscored meet.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's track and field team hosted their last indoor meet of the winter season at the George M. Smart Center and many Yellow Jackets prevailed in the unscored meet.
Defiance was led by freshman Leah Anderson (Hicksville) who placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.57 seconds. Anderson also competed in the long jump and jumped the distance of 4.76 meters which resulted in a second place finish.
Freshman Courtney Kunk (St. Henry) led the distance runners with a sixth-place finish in the one-mile run. Kunk crossed the line at the 5:45.69 minute mark. Freshman Aaron Textor (Swanton) and senior Kelsey Bowling (Sidney/Houston) both ran in the 3000-meter event and finished ninth and eleventh, respectively. Textor crossed the line at 12:15.39 while Bowling crossed at the 12:28.75 minute mark.
Freshman Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill. /Downers Grove North) took home an eighth-place finish in shot put with a throw the distance of 10.47 meters. Fellow throwers, junior Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich. /Airport) and freshman Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) competed alongside Santen in the weight throw. Walls finished eighth (11.73 meters), Santen finished tenth (11.39 meters) and Waidelich finished eleventh (11.19 meters).
Select Yellow Jackets that qualified for All-Ohio will return to action tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 14 when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio DIII Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
