Defiance Opens Up Indoor Season Defeating Bluffton
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s track and field team opened up their indoor season hosting Bluffton University in a dual meet and defeated the Beavers, 57-48.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's track and field team opened up their indoor season hosting Bluffton University in a dual meet and defeated the Beavers, 57-48.
Defiance was led by six first place finishes by four different Yellow Jackets. Senior Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) started things off for the Yellow Jackets winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.37 seconds. Anderson also won the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish in 28.49 seconds.
Junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) also had two first place finishes in both the 800-meter run and the one mile run. Miller crossed the line at the 2:36.41 and 5:26.71 minute marks, respectively.
In the field events, junior Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center) and sophomore Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla. / Fort Myers) both finished first in their respective events. After four attempts, Weaks jumped the distance of 4.86 meters to beat her Bluffton opponent. Walker threw the weight a distance of 12.19 meters which allowed her to take the top place finish.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the North West Ohio Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
