DELAWARE, Ohio – The Women's Track and Field Team showed they were one of the best in Ohio at the All-Ohio Division III Championships. DC finished fourth out of 17 scoring teams with 77 points. The fourth place finish was the best ever for the Yellow Jackets.
Six different individuals scored points for the Yellow Jackets. All six of those individuals broke their personal records and three of them even broke a Defiance College record.
Going into the weekend, DC already had 10 points thanks to Kim Bingley (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and Maggie Sarfino (Dayton, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont). In the heptathlon, that took place last weekend, Bingley picked up eight points for a second place finish and Sarfino picked up two for a seventh place finish.
Bingley wasn't satisfied with last weekend's performance, she picked up two more top eight finishes today. In the javelin throw she finished sixth with a throw of 35.09 meters. Fellow senior Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) finished one place in front of Bingley in the javelin. George took fifth place with a throw of 36.08 meters. The mark for George was also her career best in the javelin throw. Bingley saved her best showing for the 400-meter hurdles. She took second place in the event with a 1:04.36, just .01 behind the first place finisher. The time Bingley put up is also a Defiance College record.
Sarfino also placed well in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished in sixth with a time of 1:07.35, which was good enough for her personal record. She also broke her own DC triple jump record with a distance of 11.09 meters. That mark was good enough for second place.
Along with setting a personal record in the javelin throw, George also set PR's in the 400-meter dash and the high jump. She finished fourth in the 400 with a 58.79, besting her career best by nearly a second. Along with setting her new best height in the high jump, she was also crowned Division III All-Ohio Champion. She cleared a height of 1.65 meters to claim the title.
Another school record was broken by freshman Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut). She shattered the competition and the DC record with a 12.05 in the 100-meter dash. She broke the DC record by .38 seconds and blew away second place in the race by .14.
The four of them were not done yet, as George, Bingley, Sarfino, and Wilson combined to break the DC record in the 4x400-meter relay. They came in third with a time of 4:03.64.
Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and Sam Cook (Raiford, Fla. / Bradford County) also both set a personal record.
Miller, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, set her new time of 11:34.32 in the event. The time was also good enough to claim sixth place.
Also claiming sixth place was Cook in the shot put. She threw for a distance of 11.82-meters for the three points.
DC has a short week to get ready for its next meet, when the Yellow Jackets travel to Anderson on Thursday. Meet time is set to begin at 2 p.m.
