DC Track and Field wins third straight meet
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC Women’s Track and Field scored points aplenty at the Dick Small Tri-Meet and handedly ran away with the meet.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC Women's Track and Field scored points aplenty at the Dick Small Tri-Meet and handedly ran away with the meet. The Yellow Jackets finished in first place with 144 points, 54 points more than the runner-up.
This is now the third meet in a row, dating back to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, which the Yellow Jackets have finished in first as a team in the meet.
The Yellow Jackets had 14 different individuals finish inside the top three in several different events.
Kim Bingley (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) had three first place finishes for DC. In the field, Bingley started out her day by winning the high jump with a jump of 1.53 meters. She then went over to the long jump area where she picked up her second victory of the day. She won with a jump of 5.20 meters in the event. Coming in second was Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center) with a jump of 5.02 meters in the event. Bingley capped off her day by a very strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles. Not only did she grab the victory in the event, she also marked the 20th best time in the nation in NCAA Division III this year. She ran a time of 1:06.17 in the event.
Another runner that saw national success was Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut). She now owns the 21st best time in the 100-meter dash and the 6th best national time in the 200-meter dash. She won both races in the Dick Small Tri-Meet. In the 100-meter dash, Wilson ran a 12.54. Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) took second in the event, with her time of 13.36. With a time of 25.32, Wilson also won the 200-meter dash on way to setting a new school record and the 6th best NCAA Division III time this season. Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) and Anderson finished the sweep for DC in the 200-meter dash, taking second and third, respectively. George finished with a 26.55 and Anderson with a 26.84.
Along with her second place finish in the 200-meter dash, George also picked up wins in the 400-meter dash and the javelin throw. George ran a 59.69 in the 400-meter dash, beating the second place runner by over seven seconds. Jessie Bell (West Salem, Ohio / Northwestern) took third place in the 400-meter dash. Bell ran a 1:08.24 in the event. George also took first in the javelin throw. Kim Maro (Tunkhannock, Pa. / Tunkhannock) and Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg) took second and third in the javelin throw, respectively. George, Maro, and Heeter had throws of 33.14 meters, 31.51 meters, and 29.60 meters to take the first three places.
Also picking up victories were Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and Margaret Sarfino (Dayton, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont). Miller won the 1,500-meter race while Sarfino took first in the triple jump. Miller ran a time of 5:00.85, beating the rest of the field by almost five seconds. In the triple jump, Sarfino took first with a distance of 10.67 meters.
Weaks took second in the triple jump to add to her second place finish in the long jump. She took second in the triple jump with a distance of 9.51 meters.
Weaks joined up with Anderson, Brooke Lime (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance) and Sadie Daeger (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance) to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay race. In one of the most exciting races of the day, the 4x400-meter race was a memorable one. The Yellow Jackets slowly fell behind early when the baton was handed to Anderson for the anchor leg. In a valiant effort, Anderson turned a deficit of 50-meters into a race. Anderson was able to catch and pass the second place relay team but just couldn't quite catch the leaders as DC settled for second. The team finished with a 4:36.73 in the race.
Lime also took second in the 100-meter hurdles to add to her second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay race. Lime took the runner-up position with a time of 17.07 in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the throwing events, freshman Sam Cook had a very strong showing in the Dick Small Tri-Meet. She finished in second in both the discus and the shot put throws. In the discus she threw for a distance of 32.97 meters. She followed that up with a strong showing in the shot put with a throw of 11.46 meters.
Nikki Young (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) also had a top three showing in a throwing event. In the hammer, Young threw for a distance of 34.76 meters.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, April 5. They will participate in the Huntington Meet with a start time of 12 noon.
