DC sees several top 10 finishes at Taylor Invitational
UPLAND, Ohio – The DC Women’s Track and Field team ventured across the state border to Indiana and across the collegiate association border to compete against several NAIA schools in the Taylor Indoor Invitational.
UPLAND, Ohio – The DC Women's Track and Field team ventured across the state border to Indiana and across the collegiate association border to compete against several NAIA schools in the Taylor Indoor Invitational.
11 different teams from the NAIA and the NCAA competed in Upland, Ind. at Taylor University. The Lady Yellow Jackets were able to secure nine different top 10 finishes at the invitational.
Freshman Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut) continued her great start to her collegiate career on the track. Wilson finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.51, setting the DC record for the event. She narrowly missed another DC record finishing the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.42, just .01 away from the record.
Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center) had a great day in the field for the Yellow Jackets, picking up two third place finishes. With a jump of 5.04 meters, she secured the third place finish in the long jump. The sophomore also jumped her way into third place in the triple jump. Weaks successfully jumped a distance of 9.97 meters in the event.
Sophomore star Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) set yet another DC record at the invitational. With her time of 10:47.91 in the 3,000-meter run, Miller set the new DC record. She finished second in the event. Miller also picked up a seventh place finish in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 3:16.90
In the 55-meter hurdles, Margaret Sarfino (Dayton, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont) was able to finish 10th. With a time of 9.24, Sarfino was able to secure the top 10 finish.
DC saw two individuals place in the top 10 in the shot put. Freshmen Samantha Cook (Raiford, Fla. / Bradford County) and Ellexsie Haughton (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) were able to finish sixth and eighth, respectively. Cook's throw sailed 11.64 meters and Haughton's went 11.47 meters.
The DC women will be in action again on February 8 at the Ohio Northern Invitational. The meet will begin at 11 a.m.
