Lady Jackets take second in home invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Yellow Jackets put together a strong showing at the Defiance College Invitational where they finished second overall as a team.

DC also had several top five finishes and even saw four first place finishes on the day.
Senior leader Kali George (East Palestine, Ohio / East Palestine) continued to impress on the track and in the field. She started out her day the right way, winning the long jump with a jump of 5.06 meters. She continued her individual success in the 400-meter dash with a second place finish. George crossed the line at 1:01.66.
George also saw success as part of the 4x200-meter relay. She teamed up with Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll), Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center, Ohio / Liberty Center) and Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla. / Astronaut) to finish second in the race. With the 1:49.10 time, the four runners broke a school record that had stood since 2001.
Wilson was all about breaking records at the Defiance College Invitational. She broke another school record in the 60-meter dash with an 8.10 time. She broke her own record from the first meet of the indoor season.
Weaks also had a very busy day for DC. On top of her 4x200-meter record breaking effort, she also saw success in both the long jump and triple jump. She finished second in both events. Weaks jumped for a distance of 4.97 meters in the long jump, topped just by fellow Lady Yellow Jacket, George. Weaks jumped for a distance of 9.69 meters in the triple jump for the second place finish, just .08 meters behind the winner.
The distance medley team brought home a second place finish for DC. The team of Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. / Jay County), Brooke Lime (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance), Brittney Holmes (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance and Kelsey Bowling (Sidney, Ohio / Houston) teamed up for a time of 14:34.55.
Miller was able to grab another win in her sophomore campaign. She finished first in the one mile run with a time of 5:31.20.
Lime and Bowling also saw success outside the relay team, each grabbing an individual fourth place finish. Lime finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a 10.09. Bowling saw her fourth place finish in the field, where she vaulted over a height of 2.30 meters in the pole vault for the fourth place finish.
Angelyn Kutchinski (Baldwin, Mich. / Mason County Central) joined Bowling in a successful pole vault day for the Lady Jackets. Kutchinski was able to capture a tie for second place in the event with a height of 2.45 meters.
Margaret Sarfino (Dayton, Ohio / Kettering Fairmont) saw success in both the field and track. The freshman claimed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.86 while also finishing fifth in the high jump where she completed a height of 1.37 meters.
DC throwers saw some success as well. Freshman Ellexsie Haughton (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) and Samantha Cook (Raiford, Fla. / Bradford County) represented the Lady Jackets nicely in the shot put and weight throw.
In the shot put, Cook was able to throw her way into first with a toss of 11.54 meters. Haughton was not far behind with a throw of 11.21 meters, good enough for third place.
Haughton was also able to finish second in the weight throw with a distance of 13.55 meters.
After the results were in, the Lady Yellow Jackets saw themselves in the second place spot as a team. DC finished with 142 points, just 10 points behind the Defiance College Invitational winner Alma.
The Lady Yellow Jackets are in action again on February 1 when they will compete in the Taylor Invitational in Upland, Ind.
