DC Women’s Track and Field Host Third Home Meet of Season
DEFIANCE, Ohio – A day before the Defiance College women’s track and field team travels down to Otterbein College for the All-Ohio Championships, the squad took part in the DC Open on Friday, February 8 at the George M. Smart Athletic Center.

Leading the Purple and Gold on the afternoon was senior field athlete Kate Borer. The Fayette, Ohio, native finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.74 meters. It was her best mark in the event over her four year career. Borer also competed in the pole vault and cleared a height of 2.61 meters, which was good for fourth.
On the track, sophomore Maegan Redick and freshman Waverly Weaks both grabbed fifth-place finishes in the 200-meter and 60-meter dashes, respectively. Redick clocked her one lap time in at 28.74 and Weaks sprinted her 60 in a personal-best tying 8.66. Weaks also competed in the long jump and placed fourth overall with a distance of 4.54 meters.
Both individuals teamed up with senior Erika DeBos and freshman Jessie Bell to run on the first place 4x200-meter relay team. The quartet took the top spot by over five seconds with a time of 1:55.53. It was a new season-best mark for the foursome.
The Yellow Jacket track and field team will be competing at the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville, Ohio tomorrow February 9. The meet is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
