Women’s Track and Field Sits Sixth at HCAC Championships
FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team scored 20 points at the first day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships to end the first round of competition in sixth place.

The Yellow Jackets scored three fourth-place finishes during the first day of events. Junior Katie Heitkamp was fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 9-08.00. Sophomore Kali George added a fourth-place result in the triple jump with a leap of 33-03.25. The final fourth-place finish for Defiance was sophomore Kim Bingley, who took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 35-04.50.
Freshman Sadie Daeger claimed sixth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:02.97. Junior Katie Borer notched two eighth-place finishes for Defiance. Borer was eighth in the pole vault at 8-08.25 and matched the finish in the triple jump at 31-06.75.
Friday's schedule also featured preliminaries for several events. In the preliminary races, George was second in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.96, while Heitkamp crossed the line at 1:03.31 for fifth. Senior Courtney Swabb was seventh in the 400-meter preliminary.
Freshman Brooke Lime ranked third in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, while senior Marlea Rolander was eighth in the event.
Manchester is leading the event after the first day with 44 total points.
The second day of the HCAC Championships will begin at 10:00am on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets will look to move up the standings and build off the points accumulated on Friday.
