Women’s Track and Field Finishes Third at Yellow Jacket Open
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s track and field team took third at the Yellow Jackets Open on Friday with 102 points.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's track and field team took third at the Yellow Jackets Open on Friday with 102 points. Sophomore Kim Bingley led Defiance with one win, one second and one third-place finish.
Bingley won the javelin with a toss of 113-10 to beat her nearest competitor by almost ten feet. It was the second week in a row that Bingley has won the javelin. The sophomore also finished second in the shot put with a mark of 35-04.50, and third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.58.
Senior Ellen Stryffeler turned in a second-place performance in the 5000-meter run with a final time of 19:49.89. Brooke Lime was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a race of 15.52.
Junior Katie Heitkamp, a week removed from setting the DC record in the pole vault, placed second in the event by clearing a height of 9-02.25. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Bingley, Morgan Redick, Courtney Swabb and Kali George finished fourth with a time of 4:21.46. Lime, George, Morgan and Maegan Redick teamed up in the 4x100-meter relay to place third. George also added a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 103-03.
Adrian picked up the team victory with 205 total points.
The women's track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 7 in Adrian, Michigan. The Yellow Jackets will compete in the Adrian Invitational, which is slated to begin at 10:00 am.
