George, Bingley, Heitkamp Pace Defiance at Dick Small Invite
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s track and field team opened the outdoor season by hosting the 2012 Dick Small Invitational.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's track and field team opened the outdoor season by hosting the 2012 Dick Small Invitational. Kali George and Kim Bingley won events for the Yellow Jackets, while Katie Heitkamp broke the DC record in the pole vault at the meet.
The Yellow Jackets finished in second place by picking up 117 points at the event.
George won the women's high jump with a mark of 5-03.00. The sophomore also turned in a second place performance in the javelin with a throw of 84-10.00, and helped both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter teams to second place finishes.
Bingley, the defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference javelin champion, won the javelin with a toss of 92-00. She also team with George, Morgan Redick and Courtney Swabb to finish second in the 4x400 relay. Bingley also gave the Jackets a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.48.
In the pole vault, Heitkamp bested her Defiance College record with a new mark of 10-08.00. The junior currently holds the record for both indoor and outdoor pole vault.
The 4x100 team of George, Redick, Swabb and Marlea Rolander grabbed second place with a time of 51.76. The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Sadie Daeger, Ellen Stryffeler, Bri Rodriguez and Erika DeBos claimed second by finishing at 10:57.16.
Brooke Lime finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a race of 16.39, while Rolander nabbed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a finishing time of 14.17.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, March 30 when they host the Yellow Jacket Open. The meet will begin at 3:00 pm.
