Track and Field Competes at Mount Union Last Chance Meet
ALLIANCE, Ohio – Several members of the Defiance College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Mount Union Last Chance meet on Friday and Saturday.
ALLIANCE, Ohio – Several members of the Defiance College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mount Union Last Chance meet on Friday and Saturday. The men had four representatives, while the women's squad had one athlete in the final indoor event of the season.
On the men's side, the Yellow Jackets were led by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Year Tom Postema. The junior thrower collected a second place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 57-5.37, and third place in the shot put with a mark of 53-5.73.
DC received strong performances on the track from junior Hayden Krick, sophomore Joe Davis and freshman Troy Parrett.
Krick finished second in the one-mile run with a time of 4:29.57, while Davis captured third in the event with a final time of 4:41.10. Krick was barely edged out at the line, and finished less than a second behind the winner. Parrett provided the Yellow Jackets with a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a result of 1:58.75.
Junior Erika DeBos was the lone athlete for the DC women's team and came away with second place in the 800-meter run and a fourth-place performance in the high jump. DeBos finished the race with a time of 2:33.40, and completed the high jump with a mark of 1.44m.
The Yellow Jackets will begin the 2012 outdoor track and field season at home, when they host the annual Dick Small Invitational at Coressel Stadium on Saturday, March 24. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
