FINDLAY, Ohio – The Defiance College women's track and field squad traveled to Findlay on Friday for its first invitational of the new year. The meet was not scored, so it gave the Jackets an opportunity to identify its strengths for the indoor season.
DC received solid performances in a number of events on the evening, particularly in the sprint and mid-distance events.
Junior Katie Heitkamp competed well in multiple events. The junior finished in second place in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:27.14, which is the fourth best time in DC indoor track history. Teammate Erika DeBos also had a strong showing in the 500 with a time of 1:28.21, placing her sixth all-time in the DC record books.
Heitkamp also entered the pole vault event and vaulted to a height of 2.90 meters. The mark ties the second best mark in DC history, trailing only her mark set in 2011.
Freshmen twin sisters Maegan and Morgan Redick qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash along with fellow Jacket senior Courtney Swabb. Maegan
finished with a time of 8.70 seconds, good enough for third all-time in the DC record book and currently the eighth best time in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Morgan's time of 8.81 seconds places her fifth in the records.
Another freshman with a big evening was Brooke Lime in the 60-meter hurdles. Lime's time of 9.77 makes her the second fastest ever in DC history. The time also makes Lime the current second fastest in the 60-meter hurdle event of all HCAC runners thus far.
Defiance is back in action on Saturday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. The Jackets will travel to Granville, Ohio for the Denison Invitational.
