DeBos Stands Out in First Meet of the Season on Saturday
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Lady Yellow Jackets’ track and field team traveled to Trine University on Saturday for the Trine Winter Invitational.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Lady Yellow Jackets' track and field team traveled to Trine University on Saturday for the Trine Winter Invitational. The indoor meet was the first of the season for DC's track and field squad. Defiance finished in fourth place on the day.
Junior jumper and mid-distance runner Erika DeBos had a strong showing to begin her season in Angola. DeBos placed third overall in the high jump event with a height of 1.47 meters. That mark ties DeBos's personal record while at Defiance. The junior also finished second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 21:19.38.
DeBos's teammate, Ellen Stryffeler, was victorious in the 5000-meter run with a time of 20:25.13. Stryffeler currently holds the school record in cross country.
Another junior with a solid showing was pole-vaulter Katie Heitkamp, who placed second in the event. Heitkamp posted a height of 2.90 meters.
The freshman performance of the day went to sprinter Maegan Redick, who qualified for the finals of both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 200-meter event Redick posted a time of 28.86 which was good enough for fifth place.
The Lady Jackets have the Christmas season off and then return to the track on Friday, January 20 when they travel to the Northwest Ohio Invite.
