GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its list of All-HCAC track and field performers on Thursday, with three DC athletes receiving recognition. Austin Trivett and Kim Bingley took First Team All-HCAC, while Kaitlin Switzer earned Honorable Mention.
Bingley received the All-HCAC nod in her first season out of Ottawa-Glandorf High School after claiming the javelin throw title at the 2011 HCAC Outdoor Championships. The freshman athlete was DC's lone female event-winner at the championship meet with her first-place heave of 104 feet. Bingley also placed fifth at the meet in the shot put and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Trivett was named an all-conference performer for the fifth time in his career and received the First Team All-HCAC billing for a third-consecutive season. The senior athlete won his third-straight individual pole vaulting title with a clearance of 15' 1" at the HCAC Championships, and placed in the high jump, long jump, javelin throw and 110-meter hurdles to lead DC's men's squad.
Kaitlin Switzer was one of just six female athletes in the conference to receive HCAC Honorable Mention. The senior runner placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, fourth in the 5,000-meter run and sixth in the 1,500-meter run. Switzer's time of 5:01.49 in the 1,500-meter run is a personal-best for the Defiance High School product, and gives her the second-fastest time in school history for the event.
Next on the schedule for Defiance is the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Friday and Saturday May 13-14 in Naperville, Ill.
