Heitkamp Sets Pole Vaulting Record at Adrian Invitational
ADRIAN, Mich. – Katie Heitkamp vaulted to the top of the HCAC’s pole vault standings with a school-record breaking performance at the Adrian All-American Invitational on Saturday.
ADRIAN, Mich. – Katie Heitkamp vaulted to the top of the HCAC's pole vault standings with a school-record breaking performance at the Adrian All-American Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore athlete cleared 10-06.00, crushing Defiance's previous school record by six inches.
Heitkamp cemented her title as the best female pole vaulter in Defiance College history with the performance, after setting the indoor pole vaulting record in February.
DC's Marlea Rolander turned in the best 400-meter hurdle performance in her career. She finished second at the meet with a time of 1:08.47, giving her the third-fastest time in the HCAC this season and the fourth fastest in school history.
Kali George set personal records in the long jump and triple jump. She placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 9.54 meters, which ranks among the top-five in the conference this season, and fifth in the long jump, leaping 4.84 meters for a top-three spot on the HCAC's performances list.
Kim Bingley joined the record-breaking spree, posting the best performances of her career in four different events. She moved to the top of the HCAC standings in the javelin throw with a toss of 106-04, moved into fifth in the conference standing in the shot put with a mark of 34-06.75, and added a pair of top-10 performances in the 200-meter dash and high jump.
Kaitlin Switzer ran a personal-record time of 18:59.96 in the 5,000-meter run, which ranks third in the HCAC this season and second on DC's all-time performances list, and Ellen Stryffeler posted the best 1,500-meter run performance of her career, finishing in 5:04.63 for a top-four spot in DC's record books.
Next up for the Defiance College track and field team is the Div. III All-Ohio Championships in Delaware, Ohio. The meet is set to begin at noon.
