GREENWOOD, Ind. – One week after being recognized as the HCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, DC's Ashlyn Howell has been honored by the conference office once again, this time as the HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Howell placed second in the triple jump at the Adrian College All-American Invitational on Saturday, April 10, with a leap of 10.49 meters. The mark edges out Mount St. Joseph's Lauren Hastings for the top spot in the HCAC this season, and places the freshman athlete second on DC's all-time performances list.
The honor is just one of many that Howell has received in her first season at Defiance College. The Fenton, Mich., native earned All-Ohio recognition during the indoor season while breaking the school record for the indoor triple jump, and was recognized as an HCAC Preseason Runner to Watch entering the outdoor season.
Howell and the DC track and field team will resume competition on Saturday, April 17, when they take part in the All-Ohio Championships in Delaware, Ohio. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
