Women’s Track Places Second at Yellow Jacket Open
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s track and field team placed second among six teams at the Yellow Jacket Open on April, 2 and led all D-III competitors, garnering 157.50 points on the day.

Tiffin University took the team title (204.50), while HCAC rival Bluffton University placed fifth.
Kristin Goldstein anchored the Yellow Jackets' sprinters once again, coming in first in the 100 meter dash (13.71) and fourth in the 200 meter dash (28.40).
In the 400 meter dash, Ashlyn Howell posted a personal-record time of 63.76 seconds, giving her the single-fastest time in the HCAC for the 2010 outdoor season.
First-year runner, Shavonda Price, made a major impact at the meet, accounting for 28 of DC's 157.50 points. Price's day was highlighted by a first-place time of 27.36 seconds in the 200 meter dash, marking the second-fastest 200 meter time in the conference this season. The sophomore also placed fourth in the javelin throw, second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump.
DC's pole vaulters showed up big at the meet as well. Katie Heitkamp placed first with a clearance of 9-09.00, which places the freshman vaulter second in the conference this season. Kaitlyn Sandercock (9-03.00) and Emily Cole (8-09.00) took second and third-place at the meet respectively.
The Yellow Jackets' track and field team returns to action on Saturday, April 10, when they head to Michigan to compete in the Adrian Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
